BASICS:
You will need Ham Radio Deluxe Version 5.0 and the Webcam 7 update (HRDstatus will not function with WebcamXP). Please be sure you are running Webcam 7 - Ver 0.9.9.18 or later. You should also be running Windows XP-SP3 or later. This application requires all the above programs execute and function properly. Your RADIO must communicate with HRD V5.0 and your webcam system tested using CAM RADIO INFO. This application has not been tested in any other Windows version prior to Windows XP. It has not been tested in any version of Linux or Macintosh OS.

FIRST STEP:
Now that you understand the BASICS, you are ready DOWNLOAD the program (If you have already downloaded HRDstatus you may move to the SECOND STEP). You must register before you can receive the program. The author requests registration and the program be distributed by CAM RADIO NET only. The program is FREE to all STREAM MEMBERS and those who use or intend to use HAM RADIO DELUXE. It will not be distributed to NON STREAM MEMBERS or any other applicant who has not applied for CAM RADIO membership. The program is not FREEWARE. We ask that you do not distribute this software.
To obtain your membership copy, please fill out the registration form located here. You will receive your executable version within 12 hours. It will be delivered in a .ZIP file that you should save to your system.
Note: Where you place the .ZIP file is not important. However you should take note so you can find the package. Please be sure that your email application allows .ZIP downloads to your server. The email will be sent with the RECEIVED and DELIVERED FLAG turned "on".

SECOND STEP:
You should already saved the .ZIP file to your computer. Find that file and un-zip the package to a location of your choice. Now...locate the INSTALL PROGRAM and double click to start the installation. The installer will place the executable file in the path below...go to installation path.

INSTALLATION PATH:
C:\program files\camradio.net\HRDstatus. Please take a moment to verify that the entry has been made and your package has un-zipped and installed properly. There will be three (3) files in this directory. Look for the HRDinterface001.DLL, HRDstatus (the executable) and HRDstatus.exe (the XML file).
These files should remain together. If you were sent an ICON file, it should also be copied to this directory. Now "click" on HRDstatus with your RIGHT mouse button and select "create shortcut". Drag this SHORTCUT to your main desktop. You will execute HRDstatus from here. Please see ICON setup later on in this tutorial.
Take note that the program creates a BIT MAP file and places it in your DOCUMENTS directory in MY PICTURES. This location is default by WINDOWS XP and will look like this:...go to HRDstatus.png path.

HRDstatus.PNG PATH:
C:\documents and settings\??????\My Documents\My Pictures\HRDstatus.png. The location is important and we will discuss this a little later on on this tutorial. These are the paths that your HRD and WEBCAM programs will use. So what say we get started ??

GET STARTED:
You should always "execute" Ham Radio Deluxe before HRDstatus. Turn on your radio and start HRD V. 5.0 now. When you have completed the "connect to radio" portion of the HRD startup, you will see the display as you normally do each time you begin.
Now go to the "tools" menu and click on "IP server" in the drop-down menu. You must verify that the "IP server" is running. Your local IP (dedicated IP that Webcam 7 uses to stream) address should be shown in the dialog box to the right. Be sure the "IP Server" is set to execute each time you begin HRD.
Please see the image here and be sure you are set as shown. Your LOCAL IP will differ from this illustration.
Now that we have all this running, "double click" on the HRDstatus icon that you placed on your desktop. The program should execute and display the interface as shown below...now go to Execution.

YOU SHOULD SEE THE ABOVE SCREEN IF HRDstatus HAS BEEN INSTALLED PROPERLY AND EXECUTED.

EXECUTION:
Execute your Webcam 7 program now, and verify the stream is running. If HRDstatus is not running, "Double Click" on HRDstatus from your desktop. The HRDstatus window should appear as the one above. Find your Webcam 7 window and be sure that the main window is displayed. This is the "preview" window and you should see the number 1 (one) source in the main preview. Now "click on" the OBJECT EDITOR icon in the upper right portion of the window. The OBJECT EDITOR should be in view. This is where you edit the screen content that you use to display time, number of visitors and your CALL SIGN (etc). Now "click" on the "local image" icon. Place your "mouse pointer" on the preview screen and "click", the image browser will appear...
Note: The OBJECT EDITOR in Webcam 7 does not show any image until you have placed the path in the browser dialog. You may CUT and PASTE the path from the HRDstatus main window by "clicking" on the path as shown below. Or you may navigate the browser to the path as shown (YOUR USER NAME = the name you set for your XP user identity). Now click on the image located in the BROWSE WINDOW and verify the path matches the one above...

Now that you have established the .PNG location for WEBCAM 7, press "OK" to apply.  A black box will appear with your radio STATUS in yellow text. If it does not, you should go back step by step and look for an installation error.

Now move the black box anywhere you desire to display your HRD stats. The next step is important...you must double click on the black box, the Webcam 7 dialog will appear for this object. Now set transparency as you require, check the box if you desire the black background removed. More on this later...now set the AUTO-REFRESH rate to 500MS. This step must be completed so the STREAM will display your HRD status update every 1/2 second. This setting is hard-code into the program, so setting this refresh number to anything less will not make any difference. Set the REFRESH to 500MS, "click" on "OK" and "click" on "OK" again to close the OBJECT EDITOR. Your stream preview should show you your HRD stats. Note that setting the .png file to transparent allows your background to show through. You can place a colored box of the same size behind the stats. If the box covers the status image, simply "click" on "send to back" and the colored box will be displayed behind the HRDstatus image.
You should see the STATS on your STREAM...If you do not see the stats, you have a hardware conflict or a user error. I suggest you go back step by step and check your settings.

We will discuss using the HRDstatus program in the next segment.
Do not continue until your Webcam 7 main preview window looks like the one below. Note that the black box image can be placed anywhere you choose on your camera stream image.

Additional tips and an FAQ page will be added shortly. As user input generates interest, we will offer background images that you can use to spice up the HRD stats. We will post radio images that may be used to set the display. Use your imagination. Now go to USING HRDstatus.

USING HRDstatus:
Your Webcam 7 main screen should look something like my image here. Note that outside the TRANSPARENCY and REFRESH RATE there is nothing else you will edit from the OBJECT EDITOR. Don't forget to place the .png file at a clean position so you do not clutter up your stream. If you see something like this, you are ready to use the HRDstatus editor and any additional features of the program.
HRDstatus is a smart program, it receives HRD STAT data and translates this data to a bit-map file. Webcam 7 displays the bit map. However there is a sequence of events that must happen first. Start WEBCAM 7 first if you intend to display your HRD STATS. Now start HAM RADIO DELUXE and finally HRDstatus. This sequence insures the DOT NET handlers are running and eliminates a possible pesky error when using HRD internals like DM-780 and HRD Logbook.
Note: I suggest you do not edit the HRD customizer while the HRDstatus is running. Turn HRDstatus off before making any Ham Radio Deluxe desktop changes.

Lets use the program...HRDstatus looks like this !!
There is a CHECK BOX that allows non-HRD users to apply the BREAK MASSAGE to their stream page. If you do not want HRDstatus to transmit, simply turn off this CHECK BOX.
Using the "Break Message" is simple and can be useful when you plan to raid the fridge for a snack. Type in the message and "click" TAKE A BREAK. That message will be displayed in the same box as the STATS. "Click" on the pop-up box to return to the STATS display.
The Layout/Configuration shows 4 line tabs (1-4).
Depending on your radio, these lines can be configured to display any message, slider or button that Ham Radio Deluxe transmits to the IP server.
You may set TEXT and BORDER colors for each and even add a custom message using the dialog box.
When you have completed your HRD radio display settings, you should "Save as Default".  Each time you restart HRDstatus, these settings will appear. Note that some radios display a lot of information, mostly "on" or "off" conditions. However, Frequency, RF Power, S-Meter and Transmit Mode are the most popular.
I suggest you do not set Radio as a primary setting unless you use more than one (1) radio with your HRD setup. You can save a line by creating a TEXT BOX in the OBJECT EDITOR that displays your RADIO MODEL and MAKE.
The program is easy to use and if you stretch your imagination you will soon find yourself customizing your stream display. Beside the information is very useful and it eliminates the need to ask for signal reports while it displays what frequency you are on, how much power you are running or the mode you are using. The application works great with CAM RADIO INFO and the combination of all three makes it a great way to operate and enhance your CAM RADIO NET experience. If you stream on QRZ BIO it will aid the DX or CONTEST contact dramatically. Calling stations can see the exact frequency you are using and it will allow you to display split frequencies too !!

If you have installed the program and like the way it functions, make sure you tell Gary, K3WOW what you think. If you have ideas that you would like implemented, simply suggest them, Gary will certainly attempt, if at all possible, to accommodate your needs. This program is free to all STREAM MEMBERS of the CAM RADIO NET.

BTW: If you want a nice ICON for your desktop.
..simply ask and you will be granted your wish...

That should do it from here...If you have any questions regarding this tutorial, please send me a contact form from the QSO button on the website.

Thanks and 73,
Webmaster.

The Program details:

The HRDstatus program was written by Gary Dezern - K3WOW. Gary's program incorporates Ham Radio Deluxe Ver 5.0 and it's ability to transfer radio data to and from an IP SERVER PORT where this information can be used with other applications including HRDstatus and Skype. This also allows information exchange with remote applications available for radio control via Internet. The program simply creates a BIT MAP generation of four lines (your choice) from the HRD IP SERVER data. The Webcam 7 program refreshes the BIT MAP image and places it on your stream via the OBJECT EDITOR.
For details regarding the HRDstatus program, please contact K3WOW@arrl.net

ADD AN ICON:
Your installation is probably complete if you are looking at this...so lets add a new ICON to the DESKTOP.
In case you have never done this before, note the RIGHT MOUSE button should be used for navigation to the "properties" of this ICON and it's FILE EXECUTABLE information.
Now RIGHT "click" on the HRDstatus ICON. A dialog box appears and you want to LEFT 'click" on PROPERTIES. This selection is on the very bottom of the menu. Select the SHORTCUT TAB...
This will bring up the property edit dialog for the HRDstatus program and the ICON preferences.
Now click on CHANGE ICON. This brings up another dialog and here you can set the ICON you wish to use for the program. The default location will be WINDOWS ICONS and there are a lot of them here. You may choose one of these or use the one we sent you in an email. Use the browse button and select the location where you placed the .ICO file. It will look like the box below.
When you see the WORLD ICON with, your left button "click" the ICON to highlight and then "click" on "OK". the ICON should have changed to the WHITE WORLD. Whether you chose this one or your own, it does not matter.
Note, if you did not set the TARGET properly, click on the FIND TARGET button and a browser will pop-up that will allow you to properly set the default TARGET. Browse to: C:\Program Files\camradio.net\HRDstatus\HRDstatsu.exe and select the
executable file located in that directory.

A little about the other TABS.
The GENERAL tab allows you to set attributes regarding INDEXING and ARCHIVING. You won't need this very often. Using the COMPATIBILITY tab is not a prerequisite for this application either, but you should know that this tab exists if you have problems running old WINDOWS 95/98 programs in XP, VISTA or WIN 7.
Ok, that is way too much information regarding ICONS. You can edit really neat ICONS using an ICON editor. May I suggest a good one ?? Try...IcoFX, it really works and it is free. Google, IcoFX and download the installer to your computer. The program is DONATION WARE. Like HRD, if you use it, send a donation.
Ok I have gone over-board, but I really don't want to leave anyone out in the cold. Get HRD running and have fun.
