Webmaster Message Well we are about to embark on our third year. This will be our toughest year because like a new marriage, there are growing pains. To understand that we must go back five years and look at 3820 KHz then and look at it now. Not so long ago a group of guys hung out on 3820 every night starting at 11:30 PM. These operators, including myself functioned like most all 75 meter groups; in a round table. That was ok for the knighthood days of "bloody ole' England", but this is the 21st century and round tables are no longer effective. Former roll calls and waiting your turn are Ok for county hunters or DX nets, but that was not what I wanted from Ham Radio. Apparently Jack, KZ4USA felt that way too and so we formed CAM RADIO NET. Inside these three years we have grown and shrunk by as many as 100 + members. We have had 66 members at one time using the XML on the stream list. Rather impressive considering that most other alternatives on 75 are nothing less than private property. This year will be the hardest to complete because we have stepped away from the hallowed ground that was always above 3800. Those frequencies below 3800 including the DX window are now becoming more active than ever. This can only be attributed to the increase of "element four" certified operators. So, I have decided to break ranks and move down to 3770 KHz and operate the primary net there. This will either work or we will have to simply start over again, and starting over will not be an option. We have invited the international fraternity to join us. They have responded, and during Summer months on 75 meters, working any DX is a rare treat. I won't go into the aspects of international members, but it does not take "rocket science" to figure out what it means to many of our members running 100 watts, do not take that comment in a derogative way. Just think about pile-ups in the window and you will understand. Finally before I close...to those few who have decided to move on in a different direction, good luck, your decision will be respected here. I just want you to understand that CAM RADIO is worth fighting for. It is different and actually more like a fellowship group than a radio net. We have laughed, cried and enjoyed each others company for three years now...to give up and walk away is to say: Maybe you should never come in the first place. So without any more hype, I will simply say that CAM RADIO will live on to see another day. Yes it is moving on, but for the good of the net. We have always been about cam-rodery (new word) and we will continue to be as long as there are members with a sense of humor who enjoy this great hobby for what it is worth to each and every one. Members who remain on 3820, please help Bob K9RLB as much as you can. He will certainly need it in the months to come. God Bless... HAVE FUN and 73, Webmaster |
