CAM RADIO NET - Tutorial Remote
Access (Windows XP)
|
|
This tutorial is for all those running Windows XP-SP3. Note
that this function is available in Vista and Windows 7. You should have
no problems using RAP on these operating systems, but be aware the the
tutorial was done using Remote Access on an XP-SP3 computer. First of all before you begin, consider speed. Don't bog down your network or stream server using this application if the REMOTE and the LOCAL machine are puppies. To do this you must be running with the BIG DOGS. My application uses an IntelCORE7 CPU with 4Gbyte memory. The REMOTE LAPTOP is a Centrino Dual Core 3Gig with 3Gbyte memory. The network is FIOS based upon 10/18 Mps WAN to a 100Mps LAN with a wireless connection of 802G at 150Mps. Even at that, the network is a little sluggish at times when the stream is running and I am accessing the Kenwood TS-2000 using ARCP remote. On the other side of that coin. It is very functional and allows me freedom of leaving the shack to do basic computer tasks. I can also access the Windows 2003 Server when I need to and that is also a blessing considering the server location is not very ergonomic. I plan to use RAP as well to access the WiNRADiO server just as soon as I resolve the sound conflict issue with my ISA card. The issue there is a sound card interrupt conflict. That being said, if I can get it working properly, anyone can access that radio and use it as a receiver for testing their equipment. So onto the setup tutorial... First is a list of items you should check for and have in place: (1) The REMOTE PC should be chosen wisely. Don't use any old LAPTOP if your are serious about REMOTE ACCESS. Setting RAP on your business (office) computer may not be smart. Most people access their WORK COMPUTER from HOME, but few do it from OFFICE to HOME. (2) The SERVER (local) access point must be on and locked. In other words, no one can operate it at HOME while you access it from a REMOTE location. Keep that in mind. If the local computer is used by members of the family, this may not be the way to go. (3) You must have your PASSWORD set. You must also know the computer name and your logon account. That also means you must have ADMINISTRATOR RIGHTS. |

Radio Applications all function using REMOTE ACCESS.The Remote Access Point application is unique because you can access your HOME PC, NETWORK SERVER or WEBCAM SERVER from anywhere on the planet. You can also access your radio remotely using RAP, as long as you have it turned on at the shack prior to logging on to your RAP server. You will need a PASSWORD and the PC NAME as described above. Have fun and remember that stream on QRZ...be considerate. |
